The David M. Brown Planetarium has inspired generations of local children and adults to learn more about the Universe, pursue careers in astronomy and the sciences, become science educators and communicators–the stories are numerous and heartfelt.

I urge you to sign the “Save the David M. Brown Planetarium!” petition and share your story about the planetarium.

Did you first visit when you were a student in Arlington Public Schools? Were you an adult, attending Astronomy for Families or The Stars Tonight? Or perhaps you were a teacher, bringing your students on buses to bring their science textbooks to life.

On a personal note, I visited the planetarium for the first time when I was six years old. My father and I attended a program offered once a month at the planetarium: Astronomy for Families. I was captivated by the starry dome and star show. I volunteered there with my father until I went off to college, where I majored in technical and scientific communication and focused my research on astronomy and science communication. The planetarium will forever be a tremendous influence in my life, and for this I am truly grateful.

I think it would be a tragedy to deny future generations of children the immersive and enriching experience offered by the David M. Brown Planetarium. Let’s save this gem of an institution.
